outdoor garden style bridal shower

this past saturday we had the pleasure of assisting one of our previous clients in planning a co-ed bridal shower for her & her new husbands friends.  the skies looked threatening all day, so thank goodness the shower was under a pavilion at a nearby park.  of course i forgot to take pictures of half the detail items (ugh) but here are a few that i managed to sneak in during the day!

Wedding Reception | Floral Design

Love, love, love these!

Who says flowers have to go in the center of all your reception tables?  Why not decorate the walls too!?

Valentine's Day Wedding

February is the most notorious month for engagements, thanks to Valentine's Day!  Love is in the air, and there is no better way to proclaim your love than by proposing to your beloved.  I love to be inspired by holidays and what they represent, so I put together two inspiration boards to help you if you are thinking of having a Valentine's day inspired wedding.  The first is very classic.  It is based around the color red, a natural fit for Valentines' Day and incorporates all things romantic and lovely:

This next inspiration board contains nothing that is red, but is a modern take on a Valentine's Day inspired wedding design.  I am in love with the yellow/gray color combination and the white vases just put it over the top!

Sweet Pea Floral Design

I've had the incredible opportunity to get to know Holly Rutt, owner of Sweet Pea Floral Design in Ann Arbor.  She is a girl after my own heart - she is full of life and energy, creativity, and ambition.  I adore her as a person and a professional.  I recently had the opportunity to work with her on a U of M event and one of my clients will be working with her next May.  Holly recently was married in Ann Arbor at Misty Farms, and you can imagine that her floral creations for her own wedding were nothing less than amazing...here are some pics:

Real Wedding 2010 ~ Jessica & Brian ~ The Dearborn Inn

We had the pleasure of planning, designing and coordinating Jessica & Brian's September wedding.  With the couple living out of state, we communicated a lot through email, and met a few times in person.  They had an amazing line up of vendors...so without further ado...

The staff at the Dearborn Inn are top notch, from the sales and marketing team, to the event manager, and banquet manager the day of your event.  We had the pleasure of working beside some of the industry's finest!  Thanks to everyone who made this day a success! :)

Real Wedding 2010 ~ Vicky & Paul ~ Michigan Union

Vicky & Paul contacted me about a month before their wedding to inquire about day of coordination services.  I am so thankful I had the day open for them, they were so much fun to work with and their wedding reception rocked the Michigan Union all night long!  Vicky & Paul planned their Ann Arbor wedding all the way from New York, so we spent a lot of time emailing back and forth before finally meeting in person!  They are such a great couple, who are so in love, and it was such an honor to be a part of their special day!  Below are a few pictures captured by the fabulous Abby Rose. Click here to see the rest of these amazing pictures!

Vicky and Paul had a sweetheart table set up right by the stage where the DJ was.  They were so sweet and looked so cute all night long!

Real Corporate Event 2010 ~ University of Michigan

I had the great pleasure to work alongside the University of Michigan Department of Neurology in putting together a conference to honor their research volunteers!  It was a great day, and guests enjoyed their handmade chocolate by Shakolad, and the beautiful flowers by Holly of Sweet Pea Floral Design.  Here are some pictures of some of the decor:

Emplume - "Moderne Couture Bouquets"

A few weeks ago I saw a blog post by photographer Nicole Ladonne  followed by an amazing video by filmmaker Jamie Honce showcasing pictures and a video of these amazing bouquets that are not made out of flowers, but out of FEATHERS!  They were amazing and I knew I had to hear more about these ladies (Shannon & Carrie) and their business...

A blogger recently wrote about Emplume... “On your wedding day, vow to have and to hold something special – in addition to your new husband...” and of course we completely agree!

1. What inspired you to start this business?

We were trying to find a fashion forward and unique alternative to fresh flowers for Carries wedding in 2004.
She had a limited budget and we could not bear the thought of spending money on florals just to throw them away at the end of the night!

2. How long have you been in business and where are you located?

We officially started Emplume just 6 months after Carrie's wedding. We have a design studio in Milford, MI that is by appointment only.

3. Are there different sizes of bouquets and different materials and colors I can choose from?

Currently - every Emplume bouquet is designed for each individual bride to her specifications as far as color, size, shape, style and elements inlcuded. We are soon going to be launching our 2011 collection, which will include approximately 10 bouquets that a bride can select from. They will be available in multiple colors, with choices in crystals, jewels, and ribbon handle colors. We will also continue to do completely custom bouquets as well.

4. What is your pricing?

The average bridal bouquet has a base price of $275 and any jewels, pearls, crystals, feather flowers and gorgeous upgrades are priced ala carte.  This is a nice thing for our brides, as it lets them be more in control of the overall cost of the finished bouquet.

Maid bouquets have a base price of $130 and the same ala carte prices applies. Grooms bouts are $45, mens bouts are $25 and corsages range from $30-$150 depending on the style.

5. How far in advance do I need to place my order?

We prefer 3-6 months to have our brides go thru our design process, but more time is always better! We want to have plenty of time to make sure the bouquet or collection is perfect! We require a $100 mock-up fee which allows us to put together a mock-up of the bouquet based on our conversations and the bride's preferences, which we email digital photos to the bride for approval. Our mock-up calendar typically runs 6 weeks. Our process is very collaborative, with lots of input coming from the brides... so it takes a bit of time, but is of course completely worth it in the end!

6. Will my items last forever? Is there any upkeep needed after my wedding?

Bouquets will last forever if they are taken care of properly! Carrie's original bouquet is still on display on her mantle and in perfect condition, and it has been shipped all around the counrty as a sample! Most bouquets will only need a light dusting every few months.

7. How do you take your coffee?

Starbucks of course! Carrie has a vente iced vanilla latte and I have a skinny triple grande iced latte with 2 equals.:)

Real Wedding 2010 ~ Vanessa & Derek Part II

One of the guests at Vanessa & Derek's wedding was so kind to send me some of the photos he took of the day!  Thank you Nick!!!

Vanessa & Derek definitely had a candle theme at their wedding - when Vanessa, Derek, and I did their final walk through before the wedding, Vanessa handed me boxes of candles, some tea lights, some votives, some hanging votives, and gave us permission to do what we wanted with them.  Sweet!  I am thankful to Nick for capturing some of the amazing lighting detail of the day:

We hung these votives in the trees that lined the outdoor reception tables

These tea lights lined the inside lounge (otherwise known as the dance floor)

The amazing centerpieces by Pot and Box were surrounded by candles

Another nice detail that Vanessa incorporated into her wedding was to have "kids" tables.  These tables were covered with butcher paper and had crayons, markers, paper, and pens, for the kids to write and draw all over the tables with.  I love the photo below of the crayons neatly set up prior to being attacked by the children :)

Basketball?!

How cool is this?????

Real Wedding 2010 ~ Vanessa & Derek

Vanessa & Derek's wedding was full of personal touches - from the pictures hanging in the tent for all the guests to admire (and laugh at), to the kids tables with butcher paper, crayons, and markers, every detail was thought of and provided by Vanessa; including the invitations, the programs, the signage for the welcome table, food, the runners for the tables in the lounge (pictured below).  She is AMAZING!

Their wedding and reception venue was the Corner Brewery in Ypsilanti, Michigan.  The wedding took place outside in the Beer Garden and the latter part of the reception took place inside in the lounge.

When we met a few days before the wedding we were all a little nervous that it could rain (50% chance).  However, the day of the wedding it was a beautiful, beautiful day, clearly meant just for Vanessa & Derek.

CONGRATULATIONS Vanessa & Derek!  Thank you for letting us assist in your special day!

A September Bride

One of our September brides is having the wedding of a lifetime! We had our initial meeting with the florist last week and I can hardly wait to share some ideas! Take a look:

green dendrobium orchid

lisanthium

dendrobium ordchid

mini green hydrangea
The dark purple, aubergine if you will, really makes the green pop! The bride will be carrying a bouquet more purple than green, while her maids bouquets will be a good combination of both colors. I can hardly wait to see the mock ups!!!

All pictures compliments of Hearts & Flowers in Dexter, Michigan.
