Homemade Soap
My good friend Holly of Sweet Pea Floral Design makes homemade soaps that she sells on Etsy. Her soaps are all organic, smell absolutely heavenly, and are made with love <3. They make great bridesmaids and groomsmen gifts (the rosemary lemon mint if GREAT for shaving), wedding favors, valentines day gifts (hint, hint), or gifts for any other special occassion! Fun Details & Practical Finds
One of my favorite things to do is run on the treadmill while watching Kathie Lee & Hoda on the Today Show. On Wednesday they had this great segment on unique hostess gifts. One of the gifts they showcased were these super cool candy straws by Hammonds Candies. These would be a very fun detail at any wedding - they can be used as straws for lemonade or iced tea, or could be used as favors. No matter how these are used they are sure to be a topic of conversation!
Another item showcased on Kathy Lee & Hoda were the fabulous Twist Bands. These wonderful pony tail holders do not leave imprints or kinks in your hair! My hair is longer now than it has been in a long time, and I find myself putting it up during the day a lot, and wanting to take it down in the evening. These twist ties allow me to do just that without blow drying or taking another show. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! They come in tie die, flowers, or crystals.

Favors - to give or not to give...
We've noticed that in the last couple of weddings we have planned, coordinated and attended, there were more that did not give out favors than those that did. As we've been talking to other wedding planners and friends, we're realizing it's not just what we're noticing...other people are noticing it too.
Some speculation as to why this is happening:
1. Saving $ - depending on the size of your wedding, a nice favor (i.e. playing cards, specialty chocolates) can be expensive. It is an area of your budget you can easily cut back on. Our philosophy is if you're buying favors just to buy favors, you might as well save your money. Spend it on a dessert bar, coffee bar, ice cream bar...you get the drift :) If you are buying favors because they have meaning or symbolize something to you and your fiance, that's awesome! We have a couple who met playing euchre, so their favors are going to be playing cards - it has a special meaning to them and to all who will be attending the wedding.
2. Appreciated, but Forgotten - often times, especially after a couple hours of open bar, we find favors strewn around the tables (along with other items) at the end of a great evening. Guests leave without taking them, or they are half open/half eaten, and it ends up becoming a waste. This is certainly not always the case, but it does happen.
3. One Less Item - these days, as brides are doing more than ever, working, going to school, planning a wedding, and much, much more they are wanting to simplify the planning process as much as possible. With one less item on their "to do" list and one less headache the day of their wedding it becomes the first line item cut out of their wedding planning process. Our solution: Hire a wedding planner or wedding coordinator! Seriously, having someone help you through the process, and having someone whom you can delegate task to is a huge time and headache saver. Don't hesitate to ask your maid of honor or other bridesmaids to help in the planning process. Give them tasks, they want to be involved!

Jordan Almonds...Again!?
Does anyone really like Jordan almonds? Great ideas for alternative party favors!
Art-inspired- Encourage guests to channel their inner artist, and give out personalized color pencils in bright colorful packaging -- very fitting for an art gallery reception.
Scented Bundles- Give each guest a few stems of calm-inducing herbal incense, like jasmine or lavender. Tie the bundles with raffia and then around each napkin for a pretty place setting presentation.
Cocktail Accessories- Choose drink coasters that fit your wedding style -- martini coasters for a '40s-style wedding, twig coasters for a garden party. Have them monogrammed or printed with a special thank you message.
Outdoor Fun- Kites aren't just for kids. Splendid for causal waterside weddings or romantic park parties, small kites can be a sophisticated, and trend-setting, party favor.
Noisemakers- Make some noise! Maracas are so festive and sure to enliven even the liveliest of parties, perfect for a beach wedding or any party with Caribbean flair. Jingle bells are perfect for a winter or Christmas wedding.
DIY Cool- At each setting, rest small fabric-covered scrapbooks or with a hand-written thank-you note on the front page.
Jetsetter-approved- For the couple that loves to travel, send guests home with personalized luggage tags boxed and tied with a ribbon.
By the Book-True romantics might opt to give guests a copy of Shakespeare's sonnets or a book of favorite love poems, with a custom bookmark to add a personal touch.
Going Green (Eco-friendly)- Place one or two cards per table letting guests know that a donation has been made in honor of them to your favorite charity to celebrate your special day.
