Utilizing the Holidays

As my first wedding anniversary approaches (December 13th), it reminds me of how skewed my thinking was prior to my wedding. I always imagined myself getting married in the springtime or late summer. Never in a million years would I have imagined myself getting married in December. However, for my budget, it was a blessing in disguise. December is certainly not the most popular month to get married in, and I was able to get an incredible deal on my wedding package, almost half price from what it would typically be from May through September. I was also able to utilize the Christmas decorations already put up in the Dearborn Inn such as the poinsetta's, the christmas trees adorned with lights and decorations, the baby grand piano in the lobby, and all the other decorations around the hallways of the hotel. My ceremony and reception was all in one enclosed location, and all the guests complimented the fact that they didn't have to walk or drive anywhere in between. I encourage you to have an open mind when planning your wedding. If you have a strict budget, consider the off season like I did and make the most of the pricing and decorations already available. Especially in this economy, vendors are willing to go the extra mile, and negotiate with you a lot more than ever before.

As a side note, the staff at the Dearborn Inn were amazing!!! I highly recommend them :)

This is a great tip. I too was married in the winter, January. It is such a magical time of the year. Everything is sparkly and silver. Most venues, outside of holiday parties, are looking for business and willing to make deals!

I got married in December as well... New Years Eve, infact ... and the pictures we took outside in the snow turned out beautifully! :)

As your first anniversary is approaching (wow-it just seems like yesterday) we remember how magical and beautiful it all was. The Christmas season and all it's glory really made it even more special. We were in tears after it was over because it was so perfect and the Dearborn Inn couldn't have been better- the staff was incredible and went above and beyond every detail!
